Wednesday 16 November 2022 Musi 322-01 Bienvenidos a La Mentoria en El Caribe de habla Hispana! (Welcome to mentorship in the Spanish Speaking Caribbean!) Hear Ye! Hear Ye!  I've arrived in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean with my blog besties.  Since this is the final stop of our musical journey It's safe to (in)formally introduce myself: Hola! Me llamo Gabby I hope you guys took heed from our last blog and spent time enhancing your Spanish speaking and comprehension skills. Reason being? Well, we are now docked in the musically rich waters of the Spanish Caribbean, which is a region made up of islands such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. These islands are shaded by thick canopies of mentorship, afforded by both governmental and private organizations. Tuesday 1 October 2022 MUSI 322-01 Hopping for Mentorship in the Dutch Caribbean Oh, blog bestieeee! 👀 If you've gotten this far on our musical journey of the Caribbean, then you'd know that we recently left the beautiful French Caribbean islands, where we became drenched in oceans of knowledge regarding mentorship. I'm sure that must have been exhausting, and for that reason, I hope you've had a chance to rest and bask in the serene beauty of the skies, coupled with the calming nature of the sea. As a matter of fact, you'll need to muster up as much energy as you can for this next stop: the Dutch Caribbean. What a pleasure to have you back with me as we continue our exhilarating journey throughout the vast ocean of mentorship in Caribbean music. In this session, we'll take a quick stop in the French Caribbean and dive into the various pools of mentorship opportunities the countries there provide.  Saturday 3 September,2022 MUSI 322-01 Portfolio Introduction Mentorship in Caribbean Music When it comes to Caribbean music, mentorship plays an integral part of shaping its overall nature. As a matter of fact, according to Christine Gangelhoff and Cathleen LeGrand's book "Tour De Force", mentorship serves as one of the three thematic threads that hosts similarities among the development of musical traditions throughout the Caribbean  (Gangelhoff & LeGrand, 2020). Although creolization and versatility are also listed as important thematic threads, this portfolio focuses on mentorship and the vital role it plays within Caribbean music.  Broadly speaking, mentorship can be defined as the relationship between two or more individuals in which the person with more knowledge, experience or wisdom educates and/or passes on their knowledge to those persons who aren't as educated about a particular field/concept.
